Erectile Dysfunction
Also known as impotence, erectile dysfunction is the inability in a man to have an erection or keep the penis hard enough for the purpose of sexual relations with their partner. But it can only be labeled as erectile dysfunction if it is a consistent occurrence not a one-time occurrence. The main cause is the interruption of blood from flowing into the penis or it could be as a result of damage to nerves in the penis.
This condition is common in men who are advanced in age though this is not a pointer to it having anything to do with age. It can also come about as a result of damage to the brain, pelvic area or even the spinal column. It has also been found that some diseases like diabetes, kidney diseases, alcoholism or multiple sclerosis pose a danger in terms of damaging the penile nerves.
It is also caused as a side effect of using some kinds of medical drugs. Some of these drugs are those used in the treatment of depression, high blood pressure, ulcers or allergies. In this class too are tranquilizers and some of the drugs used in dietary medication to suppress appetite. This condition can be treated by surgery, drugs or psychotherapy.
